Project Room

Inwood, December 2002
My assignment was to illustrate an article on the surprisingly large concentration of musicians that are moving to the Inwood neighborhood of upper Manhattan. A sort of bedroom community for musicians, they seem to spend little time there and I could not detect any noticeable traces—such as clubs or pawnshops—of their presence. So, I decided to watch for people carrying musical instruments in front of neighborhood landmarks, such as the Cloisters Museum or, as in this case, an obvious street sign.
