Narcissusoil on canvas 24"x48" This piece is inspired by a friend who refers to his past antisocial behaviors as Narcissistic traits. It is his belief that Narcissus was not looking at himself but looking for himself and finding only vague outlines and emptiness. All the while, he neglected his responsibilities and broke people's hearts. This piece is a little different from the others in the treatment of the paint: much of it is troweled on with a small palette knife, giving it an impasto that is unusual in my work. It was fun to produce because it allowed me to create a forest setting. Forests are my favorite locations and fine metaphors for understanding spaces that range from city streets to cathedrals to the psychological realms of dreams. |
